Sardinia in June: weather, temperatures in North Central and South, vacation tips and advice
In June, Sardinia offers ideal climatic conditions with average temperatures of 25-28°C and sea water around 22°C, perfect for a vacation ahead of the high season.
Olbia and Alghero are among the cities in North Sardinia, which the daytime temperatures range from 24°C to 27°C. Seawater reaches at least 21-22°C, especially in the Emerald Coast. The sea breeze is still there in the hottest hours of the day.
Central Sardinia presents a unique microclimate. In the higher regions of the island like Nuoro, the temperatures are just slightly above freezing hovering between 26-29°C during the day. The sea here is less felt, but because of the cool evenings, the temperature is around 18-20°C.
In Southern Sardinia, Cagliari and its coastal regions also record exceptionally mild weather. The thermometer displays 25-28°C during the day, and the water of the sea also rises to 22-23°C. The Gulf has been under the favorable conditions of the sea currents. Meteorological stability is the feature of Sardinian June by the Sardinian climate. The day that rain occurs, it is short-lived, with only 2-3 days of the entire month observing it. Humidity is kept moderate by the natural air conditioning effect of the sea.
Why Costa Rei Is a Must-Visit Destination in June: A Local Expert’s Guide
In June, Costa Rei is one of Sardinia’s most rewarding early summer destinations, as it’s the time of year when there’s perfect weather, blissfully uncrowded beaches and better prices, all rolled into one. As a local travel expert, I’ve seen many visitors fall for Costa Rei’s 8 kilometer stretch of white (and secluded) sand beach during June.
The water temp meates a very comfortable 22-23°C (72-73°F), great for swimming and snorkling in crystal clear Mediterranean water. The air temperature ranges between a comfortable 25-27°C (77-80°F) making it great for beach activities, but not the stultifying heat of August. Of the lot, I think June is perfect with natural beauty and accessibility. Even the beaches famous juniper trees and Mediterranean vegetation are in full bloom with the turquoise sea as an amazing backdrop. You won’t have to wade through the crowds like in peak season as the sand dunes are less trampled, and you can truly admire the natural beauty of them.
Additionally, the beach isn’t full of the crowds you might find with high season tourists, and there will be plenty of space for you to stretch out. In June, Costa Rei marine life is very active. When the water visibility is excellent and you can see lots of fish around – sea bream, mullet – I often tell my clients to go snorkeling. Families with children will appreciate especially this shallow, gradually sloping seabed, while an occasional gentle breeze makes the best conditions for windsurfing and sailing.
The local atmosphere you can feel there is what makes June the most special in Costa Rei. Nearby villages are starting their summer activities, but retain the original charm. Restaurants around are not overcrowded so you can have your play with Sardinian plates eating at a local restaurant without any bookings in advance days ahead. With fresh seafood all around and lesser wait staff yet to be overwhelmed by peak season crowds, you can usually get service that’s a tad better. From practical point of view, June has significant cost advantages. Throughout September, hotel rates are just 30-40% less than July and August, while delivering the same superb service. Good accommodation from boutique hotels to cheaper private villas is easy to come by. Vehicle rental is much more apparent, you won’t get congested with the usual traffic at peak season, and you can peacefully visit places close by like Scoglio di Peppino or the ancient ruins of Castello di Quirra.
Best Beaches to Visit in June in Sardinia.
June is the ideal time to explore Sardinia’s beaches, avoiding summer crowds and enjoying perfect temperatures of both air and water.
As someone who’s spent years leading tourists all over the Sardinia’s coastline, I can honestly say that it is in June that you’ll find the right balance of pristine beaches, pleasant temperatures and lower crowds all across the island’s most beautiful coastal locations.
Gems of North Sardinia’s Beaches…in June
June is shining particularly bright in the Costa Smeralda. Spiaggia del Principe doesn’t feature the usual summer crowds, but it allows you to admire its emerald waters. To get there, drive 15 minutes from Porto Cervo on signs to Cala di Volpe. Park in the parking area and walk a scenic 10 minute trail. I’d advise you to get there prior to 10 AM so that you can get the best spots next to the granite formations. La Pelosa Beach in Stintino shines in June, Texas blue in bone clear water. The pleasant water’s temperature of 22°C makes for excellent long swims. It’s delicate ecosystem so access requires a pre booked ticket (€3.50 per person) and a 5 minute wait. You then shuttle from the main parking area, every 15 minutes, EUR 1 each way. Tahiti, or as its known, Cala Coticcio on Caprera, is an exclusive June experience. La Maddalena: Book a guided hike to access (mandatory) one through local authorized guides. One of Mediterranean’s most pristine coves is the reward for one 30-minute trek.
Treasures of the Coast of Central Sardinia in June
In June, Cala Luna is at its best. Stunning limestone cliffs are the backdrop for the morning boat service (with views, €15 round trip) from Cala Gonone. For the more experienced hiker, the 4km journey from Cala Fuili is another alternative to the popular trail, but this time plenty of water is a must and an early start is advised, especially to avoid the midday heat. Located within 2km, Spiaggia di Berchida is 2km of untouched beauty. From Orosei take the road, northwards for 20 minutes following the signs for the beach. In June, the water is up around 21°C and is just right for exploring the small underwater caves in the shoreline. Arutas beach made famous by its quartz pebbles sparkles beautifully in June’s clear light. It is now 30 minutes away from Oristano, parking is easier this time of the year (€5 a day). It’s perfect for snorkeling among Mediterranean fish because of the shallow waters.
Southern Sardinia’s Hidden Paradises in June
Tuerredda Beach is just beautiful, and extremely accessible in June. 1 hour to Cagliari, you can also park here (€7/day), but only if you arrive before 9 AM (otherwise it’s crowded and enormously confusing). The island 100 meters off shore makes for excellent snorkeling adventures. In June perfect weather, Porto Giunco near Villasimius presents its flamingo population and crystal waters. With excellent facilities on it, but still retaining some of the natural charm of the beach. Access to this beach is only a short 5 minute walk from the main lot (€5). June is one of Cala Pira’s best months. The Spanish tower across from the beach happens to be an excellent chance for photos as the sun rolls up. A 20 minute drive from Costa Rei (easy parking €4 and the short, beautiful walk through aromatic Mediterranean vegetation). Although it has been years since I have been to the beach, I suggest bringing water shoes, reef-safe sunscreen, and cash for parking for each beach. While June’s temperatures cluster around the moderate (24-27°C), beach-hopping is not out of the question, although it always pays to check local wind conditions as the Mistral can still be strong at this time of year, even up in the north of the Côte d’Azur.
Cultural Events and Festivals in Sardinia in June
Sardinia’s seasonal festival calendar begins early in June, providing a true example of the island’s cultural wealth and celebrating local events through music, traditional parties, and food events.
From June 23 until June 24 transforms the old town of Alghero into a wonderful location to celebrate Festa di San Giovanni (San Giovanni Battista). During Fuochi di San Giovanni, one of the bonfires is definitely on my list of must experiences as a local guide – ancient bonfires lit to illuminate the medieval walls in the dark, while they are surrounded by traditional dancers of San Giovanni. There is special seafood feasts featured in local restaurants and midnight swims that have healing properties. In early June, the Porto Cervo Wine & Food Festival celebrates the best of Sardinian wines and dining. The three day event, set against the beautiful Costa Smeralda backdrop, brings together masterclasses with famous winemakers, cooking demonstrations by local chefs and exclusive tastings of Vermentino and Cannonau wines. For private producer access, I recommend booking the VIP evening sessions. In one of Sardinia’s most picturesque fortified towns, Castelsardo presents medieval reenactments at the Festival dei Malaspina. Millenary music performances, flag throwers and artisans performing their traditional crafts run through the narrow streets. The castle courtyard evening concerts under the stars are very magical.
Sardinia’s Traditional Central Celebrations
The Festa di San Pietro in Nuoro is a festival which gives an idea of the pastoral tradition of the island. Performance of Tenores (traditional Sardinian throat singing), demonstrations of traditional wool processing and the making of Pane Carasau are all part of a three day celebration. I suggest going to the evening procession to watch locals dressed in costumes centuries old. As Mediterranea Festival held in Orosei, contemporary art and ancient Romanian culture intersect at its perfect meeting point. Local craftsmen, as well as international artists, are creating installations in historical buildings. Other highlights include an office workers’ poetry competition by night, this time in the ancient Sardinian language but also with spontaneous musical recitals. The Sagra del Mirto, is Telti’s celebration of the famous Sardinian liqueur. Others reveal their secret recipes for a traditional meal, and cooking workshops on how to turn this alcoholic beverage into some traditional dishes. Unforgettable memories are made every evening folk music sessions, when young and old dancers go through the ballu tundu (the traditional circular dance).
South Sardinia’s top ten highlights in June
Although the Festa di Sant’Efisio in Cagliari takes place in May, there are special events from May through June. Evening processions, performances of traditional music and food festivals with food based on ancient recipes are celebrated in the same historic Stampace quarter. Check out the special evening masses with canto a tenore performances. Carloforte’s historic tuna fishing tradition is celebrated during the first two weeks of June with the Girotonno. Chefs from international compete in creating innovative dishes with the use of traditional methods. Hands down, one of the best things to do on Matlapani is to book the sunset tuna cutting demonstration and then do a tasting. The Festival of Ancient Lights in Pula links archaeology and art at the ancient Roman site of Nora. At nightfall, very impressive, hundreds of torches light up the archaeological park, and performers replicate Roman ceremonies of antiquity. Such an enchanting atmosphere, history and music and the sunset of the Mediterranean Sea … I recommend booking accommodation well in advance for all these events, as even in June, cultural festivals are a draw for large crowds. Early bird tickets are available for many events with exclusive workshops and demonstrations. In any case, remember that Sardinia is a Christian country, and it is important to respect local customs, especially during religious celebrations, and not be afraid to join them, when invited, Sardinians like to share their tradition with respectful visitor.

Besides them, one of the best local car rental companies in Sardinia, with services in Corsica and Porto Cervo, is Sardinia Rent a car.
